Add Wardstone to a LangChain app
Wardstone is a plain HTTP API, so it works with LangChain without a special integration package. Call it on the user's message before the chain runs and on the answer before you return it.
Free plan: 10,000 requests a month. No credit card. See pricing
What you need
A Wardstone API key (the Free plan includes 10,000 requests a month), set as the WARDSTONE_API_KEY environment variable, and a LangChain app using any chat model.
Where the checks go
In a typical chain there are three places worth checking:
- The user's question, before chain.invoke.
- Retrieved documents in a retrieval chain, before they are formatted into the prompt.
- The model's answer, before you return it.
What your check will see
Real responses from the public Wardstone endpoint for two inputs a support chain might receive.
Injection attempt
Your answer function would return the blocked message.

Is there an official Wardstone package for LangChain?
No, and you do not need one. Wardstone is a single HTTPS endpoint, so the small helper function on this page is all the integration there is.
Where should the check go in a retrieval chain?
Scan each retrieved document after retrieval and before it is formatted into the prompt. Drop or flag any document that comes back flagged, then scan the final answer as well.
What should my app do when a message is flagged?
Most apps return a short refusal and log the primary_category. For agents, stop the run or ask a human before any tool call that sends data out.
Does this work with LangGraph or LangChain agents?
Yes. The same helper works anywhere you can make an HTTP request, so you can call it on tool results before they are added to the agent's state.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The Free plan includes 10,000 requests a month and needs no credit card. Business is $199 a month (plus applicable taxes) for 500,000 requests a month. Enterprise pricing is custom. You can create an API key straight after signing up.
